Motor Vehicle Matters

Most people, at some time in their lives, receive a traffic ticket. Some people believe that hiring an attorney for a traffic ticket in not necessary; However, there are a few things that should be considered before making that decision. First, many motor vehicle violations impose a penalty of incarceration. The threat of being sentenced to a jail term should be taken seriously and a lawyer should be hired to determine the maximum penalty for your offense and to protect your freedom. Second, some motor vehicle violations also carry with it a threat of suspension of your driver's license. Remember, driving is a privilege and not a right. Thus, the State may take away that privilege.

In addition, pleading guilty to a violation usually carries with it the assessment of "points" that are considered by your insurance carrier in setting your insurance rates. That's right, this is one of the only times when accumulating points is not a good thing! Insurance companies interpret the "points" as a negative indicator of your driving habits. More points equals a risky driver, which in turn means higher insurance premiums.
